OVERVIEW

During the third week of the Bootcamp, the idea was to pick an already existing and highly adopted app and add a new feature to it. For this project, we were a group of 3 and we decided to take some risks and work with the application Uber. We had four days to add some value to the app.

RESEARCH

First of all, we started doing a Business Analysis (SWOT) and a Competitive Analysis to understand the app better and find new possible features. Until there, it was not easy to find the weaknesses of the app and we had the impression that Uber already provided everything users needed.

SWOT

We then did a survey (90 answers) using the Lean Survey Canvas and some interviews (10) to understand users and understand which problems they were facing using mobility transport applications like Uber. Thanks to that, we found that people like to be unique and receive a personalized service. When some like the driver opens them the door, others prefer a warm conversation. Others like music in the car, others prefer a silent trip. Also people told us that sometimes they don’t use Uber because they can’t contact the driver before booking a trip, especially when they travel with a lot of luggages, with their pet or when they have accessibility issues.

Thanks to that information, we make the Lean UX Canvas, and we spend a lot of time doing brainstorming. We knew that defining correctly the problem was essential for the rest of the project, even if we had a very short period of time to do so.

PROBLEM

Thanks to all the information provided by the research, we could define the problem as follows:

“Users of Uber have different accessibility issues or special needs for each trip.”

To give users a concrete solution, we decided to incorporate a new feature that allows them to settle their preferences when using Uber, but also change them just before booking a car and be able to write to the driver. By doing this, we offer users a more personalized experience, adapted to their specific needs.

After defining the problem and thinking about a possible solution, we made the User Persona, the User Scenario, and write the User Stories that you can see below.

In just two days, we had already done all that work, and we had to finish the day by doing the user flow and the crazy eights to give shape to our idea.

On wednesday (third day of work), we started working on the UI part of the project. It was the first time during the Bootcamp as the first two projects were dedicated to UX.

First, we did a moodboard and we defined the brand attributes. Professional, elegant, contemporary and functional, that’s how users defined the brand. It was exactly the mood we were looking for by doing the moodboard and it matches perfectly with uber and the new feature we wanted to add. Also, we used the UI Kit and the Style guide of the brand to replicate the screens in the best possible way.

PROTOTYPE

Thanks to the Crazy Eights and the User Flow we made, we draw the Low-Fi prototype to test it, find how to improve it, and to see how users will interact with it. We saw that the icon of the new feature was not easy to understand and we had to change it, even if it has not been easy to find an icon that matches with the brand.

After that, we did the High-Fi version. It has been very interesting because we worked the three of us on the same Figma, so we could share easily all our knowledge and tips to draw the screens.

In the video below, you can see how the user can settle his preferences directly in his profile or how he can change them just before booking a trip.

Finally, we did the interactive prototype with Keynote. We spent a lot of time preparing the final presentation because it was the first time we did the prototype with Keynote and we also wanted to do it the best way.

LESSONS

This project has been one of my favorites so far. I feel that I learnt so much in a very short period of time. Working with Elsa Rodríguez and Inma Berjón has been such a great experience. I really want to thank them for their work, I enjoyed the way we worked together. Communication was fluent and each one gave his best.

Thank you for reading and see you soon on Medium,

Estelle.
